We are delighted to share the details of our next event “Clean Water South: Healthy Rivers, Thriving Communities: Cross-Sector Strategies for Clean Water” on Friday, 31st January 2025, 12.30 – 16.30.
Following the success of our inaugural gathering last summer, we (a collaboration between The Future Tows Innovation Hub, Civic University, and The Sustainability and Resilience Institute) are building on the momentum of this dynamic network, with the aim to better understand current cross-sector challenges, the opportunities for collaborative working, and to facilitate the implementation and scaling of innovative solutions.
We aim to find a collaborative approach to ensuring river health and community well-being. Healthy rivers are vital for biodiversity and clean water, while thriving communities benefit from clean water for agriculture, business, recreation, and health. Cross-sector collaboration among governments, businesses, and communities is essential. The goal is to provide sustainable, safe water while protecting ecosystems. At this event we wish to explore:
- The barriers to providing practical interventions by on-the-ground practitioners, and how cross-sector collaboration can help to deliver improved water quality in our region.
- How water quality management of our rivers can engage cross-sector stakeholders to identify opportunities to align efforts to address priority areas.
- Shared approaches that could be developed to tackle critical issues related to pollution control, habitat conservation, and climate resilience, while enhancing access to clean water, supporting public health, and balancing sectoral priorities for mutual benefit.
We will be hearing from a range of speakers, including Satvir Kaur (MP for Southampton Test), Dr Nick Mills, Director of Environment & Innovation at Southern Water, Carly Perry, Managing Director at Spring Innovation, and representatives from The Environment Agency and Ofwat.
The event will be held at the Future Towns Innovation Hub, located at The Engineering Centre, University of Southampton Science Park. Talks and discussion will follow a networking lunch. The event will finish at 16.30.
